- OEWS May 2025 national and state files from BLS, cross-industry estimates. Wage and salary jobs only; the self-employed are not counted.
- National engineers = minor group 17-2000. State engineers = sum of the detailed 17-2xxx occupations published for that state; suppressed cells are left out and counted in `suppressed_detailed_codes`.
- Software developers = SOC 15-1252, not part of the engineering group.
- Texas PE roster: tbpedownloads roster_pe.zip, downloaded 15 September 2026. Active = status ACT. Branch = branch1. The roster has no licensee address, so out-of-state holders are included.
- Script: `tools/report_engineers_facts.py`.
